The Irish Connection
Tasmania has an undeniable ‘Irish connection’ dating back to the 1800s when the island was still named Van Diemen’s Land.
Since those early days, we have seen a real resurgence of Irish-style whiskey (yes, with an ‘e’), with several Tasmanian distilleries producing some of the world’s best triple-distilled and pure pot still whiskey.
Come to the New Sydney Hotel, known as the best little pub in town, for an exclusive tasting of Irish whiskey and great Irish craic.
Jonathan Minihan, Irish brand specialist and MC for the evening, will present several top-notch Irish whiskies for contrast and comparison to the award winning Tasmanian Irish style whiskies.
Expect to taste Green Spot, Midleton Barry Crockett, Redbreast Lustau and the Redbreast 21 (awarded the world’s best single pot still this year). The Tasmanian contingent is represented by the renowned distillers from Hunter Island Distillery, Western Tiers Distillery, Transportation Whiskey and Hunnington Distillery.
You will be in for a real treat with this celebration of the Irish whiskey style and a lineup unlike any other.
Your ticket includes 8 x 15ml. serves of whisk(e)y and an Irish-style two-course menu (with a whisky twist).
The event starts at 7:00 p.m. in the upstairs room of the New Sydney Hotel. Come along from 6:30 p.m. or earlier to pre-mingle with the distillers downstairs near the open wood fire at the bar. Guinness on tap!
Bottle sales are available in the evening, direct from the distilleries.
